My name is Jamal Chubb, and I work in the Concierge Department at Movement Mortgage. I worked as a Logistic Specialist, 3rd class in the U.S. Navy for 4 years.

I was really good at my job in the Navy. I was often referred to as the best command in my rank and field of expertise. As much as I loved my job and serving my country, I made the decision to transition out of the military because I felt a deep desire to be a quality husband and involved father (something I think a lot of military and non-military mothers and fathers feel). I loved the military, but I loved my family more.

There aren’t many words to describe the fear I felt before I made the transition—the horror stories of soldiers struggling to make a life after the military haunted me. I knew that many soldiers ended up feeling nothing more than displaced. I feared that I too would experience an overwhelming sense of loss and dissatisfaction in my new life and job. Unfortunately much of what you hear is true, and I ended up experiencing a lot of this. But then everything changed the day I found a home with Movement Mortgage and their Veteran’s Employee Resource Group, VERG.
