Labor Day. The most well-known holiday about which few of us actually know anything. In fact, the history behind the holiday is often forgotten and dismissed in favor of celebrating the end of the summer and beginning of everyone's favorite season: football!

The holiday actually honors the nation's laborers and was first proposed in New York. However, the person responsible is disputed: Peter J. McGuire of the American Federation of Labor or Matthew Maguire, the Secretary of the Central Labor Union of New York. The holiday has historically been celebrated with parades and festivities honoring union workers and their families.

Nowadays, Labor Day is celebrated in vastly different ways. It's one of our nation's most diverse holidays. Whether you'll be lounging by the pool, celebrating with a parade for the working class, or chasing the kids on their last weekend of summer freedom, here's to a happy Labor Day, from all of us to you.

How will you be celebrating this year?
