Movement University | A First Chance at a New Career
Most returning military veterans and seasoned professionals don't consider the mortgage industry when looking for their next career. We think they should.
Movement University, a five-week, no experience needed program, seeks to immerse veterans and professionals needing a career change in the world of mortgages. The intensive curriculum prepares each class for a career as a loan processor, giving them the tools they need to succeed in the industry and providing employment post-graduation.
Take Bill Brokop, for example. Bill retired from the Air Force in 2012, went back to school, and finished his bachelor's degree. But he wasn't sure where he fit in the working world. He knew he wanted to find a place that aligned with his personal beliefs.
"I felt that I needed to find a place where what I did Monday through Friday made a difference in people's lives," he says, instead of merely increasing company profits. Movement's nonprofit foundation and culture of loving and valuing people resonated.
Bill says he applied for Movement University after being inspired by a photo of the Movement family day at a Charlotte Knights baseball game. Now, he's a team lead and takes comfort in knowing Movement invests in their employees.
"I'm most grateful for the opportunity to grow and lead in a supportive and challenging environment," he says.
Before Movement, Kyle Slattery was a third grade teacher, but he didn't feel teaching was his true calling. He wasn't exactly sure what he wanted to do. When his wife started working at Movement, Kyle thought he might thrive in the supportive environment Movement offered.
"I was very drawn to the idea that a corporation was willing to educate and train employees with no experience in order to make them successful on the floor," he says. Having graduated from Movement University, Kyle is now a pre-closer. He says he and his wife, both Movement employees, have a completely different home life now. "Before, we were miserable and we brought that home with us. Now we both love what we do."
Based out of the corporate headquarters in Fort Mill, SC, the newest class consists of 29 students, mostly in their mid- to late-20s looking for a second career. Movement University also accepts recent college graduates trying to find their place in the professional world.
