How to boost your curb appeal this spring

You’ve probably heard of spring cleaning for the inside of your home, but have you ever considered it for the outside of your home, too? Paying attention to your home’s exterior can actually be just as important.

If you’re planning on selling soon, boosting curb appeal can help make your home more attractive to potential buyers. (Kind of like staging but for the outside instead). Or, if you’re there to stay, it can also help you keep that special feeling every time you come home.

No matter your situation, curb appeal definitely belongs on your spring to-do list, so we’ve compiled some ideas to get you started!

12 ways to spruce up your curb appeal

  1. Upgrade your landscaping: Take some time to invest in maintaining your lawn, flower beds and shrubs. Trimming overgrown branches, weeding your flower beds and adding fresh mulch can help tidy up your yard, no matter how small. You can also check out garden edging to give your beds a polished look by using bricks, stones or metal edging around them.
  2. Try pressure washing: Is your driveway, walkway or siding looking a little dull? Try using a pressure washer to help remove dirt, algae and stains that have built up over time. This can help the paint pop and keep your walkways looking brand new.
  3. Make your entryway standout: Sprucing up your porch with things like potted plants or perhaps a cozy outdoor seating area can definitely provide that homey feel. It may also be worth giving your front door some extra attention since it’s a focal point. Consider painting it a vibrant color or staining it to refresh its appearance.
  4. Try adding a welcome mat: Want to add another personal touch to your front porch? Try picking out a stylish welcome mat for your front door that fits you. This could be a cool pattern, sleek color or even a fun saying to greet your guests with. Don’t be afraid to get creative!
  5. Update your outdoor lighting: Want your home to look just as good at night? Try upgrading your outdoor light fixtures and landscaping lighting. Having a well-lit pathway and entryway creates a warm and inviting ambiance. (Plus, you won’t have to worry about trying to find the front door in the dark.)
  6. Don’t forget to clean your windows: Some people say windows are like the eyes of a home. (We’re not really sure who, but we’ve heard somewhere before). Having sparkling, clean windows can instantly improve curb appeal and give your home a fresh look! While you’re at it, don’t forget to clean window sills and frames, too.
  7. Try new house numbers: We know this may seem like a small thing, but you want to make sure your house numbers are not only visible but attractive, too. Maybe try a new font or color for your numbers to give it an updated look. Plus, ensuring they’re visible can help make you get your mail, too!
  8. Consider revamping your mailbox: It may also be worth considering updating your mailbox if it’s worn out. With lots of styles to choose from, you can choose one that fits your personal style and even fits the aesthetic of your home.
  9. Try keeping up with garage door maintenance: Is your garage door not looking as nice as it used to? Take some time to inspect it for any dents, peeling paint or malfunctioning parts. Sometimes, a quick coat of paint or simple repair can help it run like new.
  10. Keep an eye on your fence and gate: Look out for any broken fence panels or sagging gates that might need to be replaced. Having a well-maintained fence can enhance your home’s overall appearance. Plus, if you have children or pets that use your fenced-in yard, making sure the fence and gate are secure can help keep them safe.
  11. Try trimming your trees and bushes: Having trees or bushes around your home can definitely help with your curb appeal. But if they become overgrown, that can take away from your home’s beauty. It’s important to prune and maintain them so they don’t become the new focal point.
  12. Don’t be afraid of seasonal decor: No matter the holiday or season, it can be nice to add some subtle seasonal decor. Whether it’s a cheerful garden gnome for spring or a decorative wreath for football season, don’t be afraid to show your style!

Ready to upgrade your home’s exterior?

With warmer weather on the horizon, spring’s a perfect time to start boosting your curb appeal. Whether you have a green thumb and choose to tackle your plants or decide a new stylish welcome mat will give your porch some personality, even small touches can help your home look just as good on the outside as it does on the inside!
