On the heels of a banner year that saw both its loan volume and national profile expand, Movement Mortgage was named one of 2016's top mortgage lenders in the Scotsman Guide, a leading mortgage industry publication and resource.

The listing, released Thursday in the Scotsman Guide's June 2017 residential edition, ranks Movement among the top 10 lenders in terms of volume gain and retail volume.

It's the first time Movement has cracked the top 10 in any category.

The accolades come just as Movement continues to celebrate a series of companywide milestones in 2016, beginning with the opening of its $22 million National Sales Support Center in Fort Mill, S.C.

The company last year was named one of the top 10 purchase lenders in the U.S., and reached $12 billion in total loan volume. It served more than 55,000 families with mortgages in 2016, hired 950 employees and generated $610 million in revenue. It also hosted CNBC's flagship business news show “Squawk Box,” which broadcast live  from the company's headquarters last spring.

Chief among the company's landmarks last year was the unveiling of the Easy App, an online mortgage experience that syncs with a borrower's financial accounts, collects and organizes financial data, and provides instant updates, all through a mobile device or tablet.

This is the fifth year the Scotsman Guide has ranked the nation's top mortgage-lending companies.

Movement was ranked among entries from hundreds of mortgage companies across the country. To be eligible, each company's loan volume had to originate from mortgages on one- to four-unit residential properties in the U.S. No commercial or international loans were included.
