Movement Comunidad expands nationwide
INDIAN LAND, SOUTH CAROLINA — Movement Mortgage, a top 10 national retail mortgage lender, has expanded its Movement Comunidad pilot initiative to a national program to equip loan officers serving Hispanic communities and Spanish-speaking homebuyers across the U.S.
Movement introduced the Comunidad program in early 2019 by identifying Spanish-speaking loan officers and equipping them with Spanish marketing and other resources. Movement also assembled a dedicated mortgage operations team of processors and underwriters fluent in Spanish. The pilot program was successfully offered through select Movement branches in Houston, Denver, and Charlotte, N.C. The program was expanded to Florida this summer and is now being offered in 48 different states across the Movement footprint.
"Differences in language shouldn't prevent otherwise well-qualified homebuyers from achieving their financial and homeownership dreams," says Movement Mortgage Chief Commercial Officer Michelle Donnelly. "We consider it a great privilege to help more communities access the American Dream, and expanding Movement Comunidad nationwide will immediately help us serve more families who wish to own homes."
Movement Comunidad was developed in collaboration with a number of Realtors and Total Expert, the mortgage industry's leading marketing operations system, to equip Movement Comunidad loan officers with a suite of marketing tools developed in Spanish and designed to meet the needs of the Hispanic community.
In 2017, about 7.4 million Hispanic Americans owned a home, an increase of 167,000 from 2016, according to NAHREP. Hispanics are the only demographic to have increased their rate of homeownership for the last three consecutive years. However, Hispanic Americans continue to trail the overall homeownership rate. In 2017, the Hispanic homeownership rate tallied 46.2 percent, compared to 63.9 percent overall in the U.S.
