MONETA, VA — Movement Mortgage, the nation's sixth-largest retail mortgage lender, is excited to announce the hiring of industry veteran Thomas Ulbrich as a Branch Team Lead in the Smith Mountain Lake area of Virginia.

Movement welcomes Thomas Ulbrich as Branch Team Lead in VirginiaUlbrich (NMLS #291329) brings with him over 30 years of mortgage experience in residential real estate financing. Most recently, he spent more than a decade as a Private Mortgage Banker at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage ( SML and Roanoke).  Prior to that, he owned and operated Dependable Mortgage Funding Corp for 15 years, with interim stints at National City, First Horizon and Embrace.

In the 1980s, Ulbrich was a bank fraud investigator working with local law enforcement, the Secret Service and the FBI. He studied at Rollins College, Crummer Graduate School of Business and continues learning the interpretation and  fine intricacies of underwriting guidelines, documentation and Business/Law.

Ulbrich, who closed nearly $70 million in the past 12 months, is a strategic mortgage advisor specializing in helping the small business owner, self employed, executives, first-time home buyers and real estate investors.   “A large percentage of my clients are  buying 2nd ¸recently retired and sitting on large nest eggs but don't have traditional income. This is my niche,” said Tom.  I love to provide value for my clients. Many have been with me for 30 years.

“Wells Fargo Private Mortgage has been very good to me for the past ten years,” said Ulbrich when asked about his decision to make the switch to Movement. “It was a tough call, but I was interested in eliminating big bank bureaucracy and was amazed at how my values align so well with Movement.”

One of his passions is Coats 4 Kids. Since 2017, Ulbrich has raised money, matched money and anonymously donated winter coats to local elementary schools. This year, through Christ Community Church Family Outreach, over 3,000 hooded jackets have already been purchased for delivery. “I have always tried to make a difference, work behind the scenes and put my money where my passion is,” said Ulbrich. “And that's what Movement is all about.”  I am excited they will match my donations.

Ulbrich reports to Roanoke area Market Leader David Henry (NMLS #272168). “We are thrilled to have Tom join our team,” said Henry. “He is not only the top Mortgage Banker at Smith Mountain Lake, he also has a giving heart making him a perfect fit for our culture at Movement Mortgage.”

Ulbrich lives in the SML area with Patricia, his wife of 26 years. When not working, he spends time with his two dogs and enjoys golf, boating, track days at Virginia International Raceway and a good game of chess.
