Movement's foundation gifts $60k grants to 6 nonprofits

Movement Mortgage is honored to announce that its nonprofit foundation has gifted $60,000 worth of grants to six nonprofits and charities nominated by Movement team members.

Among the organizations chosen is a nonprofit founded by two adolescent siblings, a group that uses puppies to help people cope with physical and emotional challenges and a charity that provides financial assistance to individuals and families dealing with breast cancer. Each of the six organizations will receive $10,000, which they can use to scale their operations and bolster services.

The nonprofits are this year's first recipients of the Movement 10k Giveaway, an ongoing campaign to give $10,000 to nonprofits significant to Movement employees. To nominate the organizations they love and support, employees submit a one-minute video explaining how the nonprofit brings life, light and hope to people in need. A committee then selects 12 recipients, one for each month of the year. Awards are announced twice annually.

Since its inception nearly two years ago, the giveaway has invested more than $250,000 in organizations transforming their communities. They've included charities that serve children with rare brain diseases, support domestic violence victims and provide shelter, clothing and food to the homeless and marginalized.

"We're committed to coming alongside organizations transforming their communities, and to amplifying their good work," says Garrett McNeill, executive director of the Movement Foundation. "The fact that Movement employees are so deeply invested in these organizations demonstrates the heart and values that epitomize our mission to be a Movement of Change in communities."

The organizations receiving the first 10k grants in 2018 include:

Champions of Change, nominated by Loan Officer Jose Peo — Rochester, New York

Founded by two adolescent brothers, this nonprofit empowers youth to become "change agents" who look for opportunities to make lasting change in their communities. The siblings and their parents last year were featured on an episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" for their efforts to serve the homeless in their area.

Project 2 Heal, nominated by Loan Officer Jill Halligan — Charlotte

It provides Labrador retrievers to service dog organizations to help children with special needs, wounded warriors of the armed forces and others.

Robbie Foundation, nominated by Market Leader Jim Allen — Portland, Maine

Along with a host of other services, this Maine-based nonprofit funds adaptive equipment, technology and therapy treatment not covered by insurance to children with developmental disabilities.

Love OKC, nominated by Market Leader Jeffrey Smith — Oklahoma City

This group unites individuals, businesses and community service agencies to meet the needs of the lives of orphans and people in crisis in Oklahoma City.

Go Jen Go, nominated by Loan Officer Annika Cole — Charlotte

Go Jen Go provides financial assistance to individuals and families battling breast cancer, providing aid during diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

Yeshua's House of Refuge, nominated by Closing & Pre-Closing Manager Kamala Wilson — Richmond

This nonprofit provides an 18-month home for women who are victims of abuse and in financial transition. Residents attend a weekly emotional recovery class, financial management classes and receive help reaching their personal and career goals.

Movement Foundation will distribute grants to another six organizations this summer.
