No Longer Web Developer No. 3721 | A #MyMovement Story
Joe "JoePease" Pease started to think he might want to get out of the web development game all together. Contract jobs he was accustomed to never lasted long enough to form an attachment with a company or coworkers. That, "combined with losing my father," says Pease, was enough to dull his interest in the field.
But his then-girlfriend (now wife) found her dream job with a ballet company in Charlotte and decided to relocate. So Pease decided to make the move with her.
Living in a new city and still unsure of his future, he heard about Movement Mortgage from a staffing group.
"[They] emailed me about a website development opportunity at this mortgage company who wanted to build out a web presence," he says. "I still have that email saved on my laptop."
Movement was just beginning to establish a web presence, and as a result, didn't really have a web team yet. For a front-end web developer dissatisfied with the lack of humanity in the industry, it was a fresh start.
"I was really into the idea of being a part of a small skilled team instead of coming in as Website Developer No. 3721," he recalls.
Plus, his interviewer made a great impression. "We shared styles of humor and love for craft beer. I figured any place where he worked couldn't be too bad."
In his time at Movement, Pease has entertained several offers from top companies, including Facebook. But he has always found a reason to stay.
"I had to stay with the job that made me happy," he says. "Movement has definitely shown me that a corporate job, the same one that I was dreading spending the rest of my life doing, can be incredibly fulfilling. I've grown so much and gained so many awesome friends here."
As for his desire to leave the web world? It hasn't crossed his mind since he took this job. He's here to stay.
