Volunteer efforts to become cash for Louisiana flood victims

By: Movement Staff
August 24, 2016

Movement Mortgage is partnering with Samaritan's Purse to help residents after the massive flooding earlier this month.

But instead of just asking for money, the Movement Foundation will donate $20 to Samaritan's Purse for each hour a team member volunteers at a qualifying nonprofit organization.

That means time spent volunteering since Aug. 1 at any organization that "brings life, love and hope to the least of these," will result in cash for the relief efforts in Louisiana.

Team members can also donate money, which will also be matched by the Movement Foundation. Click here for more information.

The money will assist Samaritan's Purse in its efforts to send volunteers to Louisiana to clear out mud-filled homes. In 2015, Movement sent volunteers and supplies to Samaritan's Purse projects in South Carolina to assist in flood relief there.

About 6.9 trillion gallons of rain fell during the flooding in Louisiana Aug. 8-14, according to CNN. That's enough to fill 10.4 Olympic-size swimming pools, the news channel reported.

As a result of the flooding, 40,000 homes were damaged and there were 13 deaths. It's being called a 500-year flood and 12 parishes have been declared disaster areas, according to CNN.

The Red Cross is calling the flooding the worst to hit the U.S. since Superstorm Sandy.
