Casey Crawford

Chief Executive Officer

A glance at his resume and you may think to Movement’s CEO, Casey Crawford, greatness lies in achievements like NFL Super Bowl champion, founder and CEO of a multibillion dollar mortgage company, and becoming a sought-after media guest whose appearances span CNBC’s Squawk Box, Bloomberg and Fox News with print features in The Wall Street Journal and TIME Magazine.

There's no doubt the 2015 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year is ambitious. But what truly drives him is not a championship ring or reaching the top of the corporate ladder. It’s meeting others’ needs.

As a child, Casey watched his father and grandfather use entrepreneurship as outreach. Whether the need was material, employment, friendship or a good example, he saw how business could be used to meet it.

Following his football days during a stint in real estate, Casey became alarmed by glaring inadequacies within the lending industry. The greed and corruption among leadership, the lack of value and care toward employees, and the inattentiveness toward community problems seemed like wide open opportunities.

Casey’s response? Movement Mortgage, established in 2008 on the Christian values he shares with co-founder Toby Harris. Movement was developed as a hope-filled paradox to a dismal reality, with a mission to be a Movement of Change in our Industry, Corporate Cultures and Communities.

Today, the company employs more than 4,000 and has over 550 locations across 47 states. In 2016, Movement ranked among the top 10 purchase lenders by financing 1 in every 60 home purchases in the country, totaling more than $12 billion in originations. As prosperity increases, so does the overflow into people’s lives. The non-profit Movement Foundation has invested more than $17 million toward community improvement and meeting the needs of the underserved around the globe.

Casey continues to spread this vision of greatness from Charlotte, N.C. where he lives with his wife, Michelle, and their two daughters.

Toby Harris

Executive Vice President

Movement’s co-founder and EVP, Toby Harris, is a driving force of one of the company’s most important qualities: heart. Having held top positions in mortgage and real estate before Movement, Toby is familiar with the gap in the industry where people - both customers and employees - are concerned. Eight years ago he partnered with CEO Casey Crawford to create Movement to fill that gap.

Toby leads with a passion for servant leadership, excellence in customer service and coaching and encouraging leaders as a certified Maxwell coach. Drawing from his military background, it was Toby who established Movement’s standard-shattering processing goals of 6-hour underwriting and 7-day processing by asking seasoned underwriters how quickly a quality loan can be completed, rather than following the laissez-faire approach of most lending institutions.

In Toby’s view, Movement should set such a high standard that employees of any industry are drawn to the workplace culture and the service level so high that competitors are compelled to improve their own. These are the convictions he puts to work each day from Virginia Beach, VA, the place he and his wife call home.

John Third

Chief Operating Officer

Eight years ago, John Third was invited by friend and colleague Toby Harris to help launch a mortgage company. Then, it seemed like a promising career opportunity. Now, it’s become a calling of far greater significance - making a difference in others’ lives. As COO, John and his team do the groundwork so the company can be a Movement of Change through loving and valuing people.

To do this, John focuses on increasing operational excellence in every area of the company, and though that can mean a lot of charts, stats and projections, it’s ultimately about serving people. Be it creating a better work environment for team members, customer service innovation or building key partnerships across the country, John’s end goal is to improve the lives of everyone the company touches. Including those in places like Uganda and India where Movement’s non-profit is active in outreach.

At home in Charlotte, NC, when he’s not planning the next new operations center or investing in younger leaders, John is often immersed in a home renovation or cheering on the Panthers, who have inspired him to become a “true football fan.”

David King

Chief Brand Officer

David King is Movement Mortgage's Chief Brand Officer, in charge of branding and head of the marketing department. In addition to overseeing brand development and advertising, David is on mission to raise the bar on marketing creativity and presentation within the mortgage industry. Under David's leadership, Movement Mortgage has become widely recognized for its innovative, state-of-the-art branding approach.

Prior to joining Movement, David owned and operated a media production business, creating promotional video, brand design and digital art for companies and organizations. He brought his talent and skills to Movement Mortgage in 2011 as the director of video marketing. His background also includes sales for a national security corporation, during which he rose to a top producer on the east coast.

David spent the first seven years of his life in Scotland and lived in England until age 14 when his family relocated to Hampton Roads, Virginia. He enjoys CrossFit and spending time on a lake or at the beach with his wife, son and daughter.

Deran Pennington

National Sales Director

At the height of his career, Deran Pennington had a choice to make: He could keep climbing the ranks as a software salesman or he could leave it behind to spend more time with his family.

He chose family, a decision that charted his path to Movement Mortgage, where he started as one of the company’s first loan officers. Today, he’s one of Movement’s two national sales directors, a role in which he oversees and supports the company’s growing salesforce in the eastern United States. The job, he says, aligns with his passions as a career coach and encourager.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science, he started work as a programmer writing computer code for IBM. He realized it wasn’t for him. Following a move to Tampa, Fla., he sold software for a slew of small technology companies before landing a job at tech giant Oracle in Charlotte, N.C. He listed Procter and Gamble, Victoria’s Secret and Abercrombie & Fitch among his clientele. He loved the job but traveled a lot, leaving his family for days at a time.

He left Oracle with plans to go on sabbatical and focus on his children. Then, he met Casey Crawford. The two became fast friends and, later, business partners when Casey told Deran of his plans to start Movement. Deran came on board in 2008, and the rest is history. Outside of Movement, his desire to extend God’s grace and mercy to the least and the lost drives his involvement in ministry. He lives in Charlotte with his wife, Van, and their three children: daughter Ann Elise, 23 and sons Truman, 20, and Tate, 18.

Ignacio Metcalf

National Sales Director

Ignacio Metcalf is a seasoned salesman who understands hard work and urgency. Nearly a decade before he became one of two national sales directors at Movement Mortgage, he responded to national disasters, from the aftermath of 9/11 to the 2003 explosion of the Columbia space shuttle.

What does that have to do with working for a mortgage company? If you ask Ignacio, it means everything when said company is one that claims to love and value people. The job taught him the significance of caring for people, and the importance of family and community.

He was born in Brussels but grew up in Spain. When he was 17, he moved to the U.S., where he earned a dual degree in economics and psychology. He found work with a company contracted with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and worked on a team that deployed as a national crisis response unit.

Looking for a new challenge, he gave mortgages a try, figuring it would be rewarding to help people achieve their dreams of homeownership. He worked in the industry for over 12 years, holding jobs as a branch manager, sales manager and loan officer at various companies.

In 2010, he joined Movement after going toe-to-toe with co-founder Toby Harris over a client. During their exchange, Ignacio realized that he and Toby possessed the same passion for the mortgage market. He was drawn to Movement, where he started as a market leader in Richmond, Va. Two years later, he was one of two of the company’s national sales directors. When he’s not traveling cross country, Ignacio devotes his time to his family, which include five brothers and sisters. He lives in Richmond with his wife Jenn and their two daughters, Cassidy, 7, and Clorie, 3.

Chris Allen

Chief Talent Officer

A few years ago, Chris Allen wrote this personal vision statement; “I’m called to facilitate the development of authentic leaders in the next generation.” As Movement’s Chief Talent Officer, he is passionate about loving, valuing and developing the company’s greatest asset – it’s people. This is what he lives out day after day.

The former Charlotte Eagles soccer athlete-turned-pastor-turned-talent-guru is at the top of a pyramid of employee-focused programs, such as Human Resources, the Thrive culture department, training, leadership development and recruiting. He would be the first to tell you, however, that the Movement Mortgage value of servant leadership means acting with bottom-up humility.

It also means creating a workplace of purpose, one that highlights strengths and values individual gifting. The kind of place that attracts and retains the evasive millennial group. This particular success has drawn the attention of other organizations. Recently, Chris added event speaker to his role, traveling to teach on leadership and development in the workplace.

No matter how exciting the week is, weekends are for family. One of his favorite ways to spend them are alongside his wife, Jamie, cheering on their four kids in sports games - soccer, of course.

Michelle Donnelly

Chief Commercial Officer

Michelle Donnelly joined Movement Mortgage in March 2017 as the company’s first Chief Commercial Officer.

Donnelly brings two decades of corporate leadership experience to the role and works across business functions to help Movement achieve its business objectives, implement commercial strategy and continue to develop as an organization. A graduate of Harvard Business School, Donnelly previously led a progressive, 20-year career at Eli Lilly and Company, one of the leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies in the world. Within this $21-billion enterprise, Donnelly most recently served as an executive leader within its largest business unit, Lilly Biomedicines. She led a team of more than 200 while overseeing the development of the commercialization strategy for a late-stage pipeline asset.

Donnelly volunteers with Samaritan’s Feet International and the Charlotte Rescue Mission. She resides in Charlotte, N.C., with her husband, Bob, and two sons, 11-year-old Jackson and 9-year-old Griffin.
